Intensive Family Support

Intensive Family Support Services provides individualised services to clients with disabilities when and where their families and carers need it.

Intensive Family Support is individually funded respite which can be provided in the family home or out in the community. Intensive Family Support can be applied for through the Combined Application Process (CAP), via the Disability Services Commission.

Intensive Family Support assists families who have needs that cannot be met through other informal or formal supports. If individual funding is obtained, Senses Foundation is able to provide intensive family support that works for the family by carefully developing a care plan to support the family’s individual circumstances.

The service is provided by support workers who have the appropriate skills with a police clearance, working with children check, medical check and Senior First Aid Certificate as a minimum prerequisite. Ongoing training is offered to our support workers so that they can effectively and safely support people with disabilities and their families and they have access to regular support. Families are encouraged to be involved in the selection of support workers during recruitment to ensure that they are comfortable with the person who will be caring for their loved one.

Intensive Family Support aims to help people with disabilities to:

  • experience positive relationships
  • make informed decisions and choices which impact on their lifestyle
  • develop a network of supports
  • develop their sense of wellbeing, socially, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and culturally.
