Alternatives to Employment and Post School Options

Providing an alternative to paid employment.

Senses Foundation’s Alternatives to Employment and Post School Options programs provide opportunities for school leavers and adults with severe or profound disabilities to participate in activities as an alternative to employment and full time schooling.  Senses Foundation’s Programs are person centred and developed around the needs and goals of the individual.

The main purpose of Alternatives to Employment and Post School Options programs is to ensure that people with disabilities who require an alternative to paid employment have access to a range of opportunities relating to:
1. Social participation
2. Personal independence
3. Life long learning
4. Enhancing informal natural supports.

Activities in the Senses Foundation Alternatives to Employment and Post School Options Service have included sailing; horse riding; belly dancing; visiting a radio station; visiting rural Western Australia; ceramics; adult education; and bush walking.

The Alternatives to Employment and Post School Options Programs are funded by the West Australian Government through the Disability Services Commission. An individual must be assessed as eligible for this service and must apply via the Disability Services Commission.  When funding is obtained, Senses Foundation and the individual develop a program that meets the needs of the individual.
